Bergen County Academies admissions timeline for fall 2027 entry

Every published date for the Bergen County Academies application: the November 8 deadline, the November 21 and 22 test and the February notices.

Bergen County Academies (BCA) is a free public Career & Technical Education high school in Hackensack, New Jersey, open to Bergen County residents. The application deadline for fall 2027 entry is Sunday, November 8, 2026. This guide lists the published dates in the order families meet them.

Who applies

Only 8th grade students can apply, and the student's primary residence must be in Bergen County by September 1, 2026. BCA says transferring into the academies is not permitted. A student can submit only one application.

The dates

| Date | What happens | | --- | --- | | November 8, 2026 | Application deadline. All sections must be completed. | | November 12, 2026 or after | Check the student portal for your assigned test date and time. | | November 21 and 22, 2026 | Admissions test. Keep both days open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. | | November 23, 2026 | If your student was ill on test day, email Admissions@bergen.org. | | December 1, 2026 | Last day to change recommender email addresses. | | January 4, 2027 | Date listed on the counselor help page for transcripts and recommendations. | | February 2027 | Applicants are notified in the portal at studentrecs.bergen.org about whether they will continue in the application process. |

What to do first

  • Proof of residency: the application manual asks for a September to November utility bill for electric, gas or water service only. The family FAQ separately says utility bills or leases are acceptable, and a lease must state that the landlord pays the utilities.
  • Email accounts: the student must use a personal, non-school email address. Recommender email addresses can be changed until December 1, 2026.
  • Recommendations: BCA requires 3 recommendations from middle school teachers. Only the 8th grade math teacher can write the math recommendation.
  • Essay: 400 words or less, plus a short extracurricular section. BCA recommends that students complete the application, essay included, as independently as possible.

The test

BCA picks your student's test date and time, and applicants can't choose. The test takes about 2 hours and is given on Chromebooks that BCA provides. BCA says it uses neither the HSPT nor the COOP, and that test scores are never released to applicants or parents.

What BCA has not published

BCA publishes no acceptance rate figure, only that it is highly competitive. It also publishes no cutoff scores, no exact notice day, and, in the materials we found, no interview dates. Where its documents differ, we say so. The sample test says the math test is given in November or December, and we follow the application manual and family FAQ, which give November 21 and 22. The manual names two portal addresses, studentrecs.bergen.org and studentadmissions.bergen.org, and we use studentrecs.bergen.org. Completion dates also vary by document: November 8 for the application, December 1 for recommender emails and January 4, 2027 on the counselor page for transcripts and recommendations.
