How the Bergen County Academies admissions test works

Test days, how BCA assigns your time, the Chromebook format, the sample test and what to do if your student is ill.

The Bergen County Academies admissions test is one piece of an application that is due November 8, 2026. BCA gives its own test, selects each student's test date and time, and publishes a sample test. This guide covers what the district has said about it.

When and how

BCA asks families to keep both Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22, 2026 open between 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Families look up the assigned date and time in the student portal on or after November 12. BCA says it can't let applicants choose because of the limits of testing.

Format

  • Length: about 2 hours.
  • Device: Chromebooks provided by BCA, using the Pear Assessment software.
  • Other tests: BCA says it uses neither the HSPT nor the COOP.
  • Scores: test scores are never released to applicants or parents and guardians.

The sample test

BCA posts a 40-question practice test that resembles the math portion of the entrance exam, with a full answer key. The sample says applicants get sixty minutes without a calculator. Each correct answer earns two points, and one-half point is deducted for each incorrect answer. Unanswered questions aren't counted.

If something goes wrong

If your student is ill on test day, email Admissions@bergen.org on Monday, November 23, 2026, and BCA says it will provide the make-up date. If there is a power failure, the test may be postponed to a subsequent weekend. A student with a 504 plan or IEP should contact the guidance counselor at least 5 days before the test.

Tutors and prep

BCA says its Admissions department is not affiliated with any programs or tutors and does not make recommendations. It suggests that all applicants review middle school English and math coursework and view the sample test.

What BCA has not published

BCA publishes no cutoff score in the materials we found, and no acceptance rate figure.
